Who I am

My name is Trey McBride I am a three year pro with experience in Serbia, Macedonia, Australia, Canada, and Germany. I am from Cincinnati Ohio, which is in the USA. I played Division 2 basketball at Northwood University where I was three time All conference player and All defense team, as well as being apart of the 1,000 point club.

My Story

My road to playing professional was a bit different when compared to most stories, but that's somewhat the norm for pro's overseas. I started out playing high school ball had a good career, you could say I was under recruited but looking back I am glad things went the way they did. I played one year at an NAIA at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University which was a small school where I learned a lot about my self off the court and how I need to approach the game from a mental stand point. I then transferred to Northwood where I really took the time to develop my game in all aspects. I took the time there to get bigger physically, it was difficult because my body did not respond to the training until my last year of school but I stuck with it and it payed off. The period between graduating and my first pro contract was covid so I really locked in on preparing my skill for the next level.

My first season statistically was not what I was used to but I played a role and I am grateful for the opportunity because I was able to use a lot of trial and error and learn a lot every game. I think a lot of young players who play internationally are unprepared with how much responsibility you have if you are the "guy" at a club, and a sad reality a lot of guys lose their opportunity because they do not know how to play the european style.

Year two, up to that point was my best year numbers wise because I had the experience and confidence from europe and I was ready to play a major role. Plus the Aussie style was a little more open and closer to the American style of play. Going to Germany for the winter season because Australia was held in the summer, was a the first time in my career where I was brought in to be the "Guy" but it came with a lot of responsibility where I would have to be our number one option on offense to score but also get my teammates involved as well as be a defensive anchor. I was blessed to have a coach and general manager that really believed in me and they elevated my game from that stand point, because they were asking me to do things on the floor that I have never done and I ended up answering their challenge.

The brief breakdown of my story hopefully outlined where my core values were applied. It was definitely a bumpy ride, but smooth seas never made a skilled sailor, and I would not want my journey to go any other way. I hope this brief story can inspire someone to just keep going, even when things do not go the way you wanted just remember life's a journey and that point and moment is only a point and moment and it will not last forever so make the most of it.

Core Values

At the heart of everything I do are the core values that drive success, both on and off the court. These principles define how I coach, lead, and inspire those I work with:

Arete – Inspired by the Greek word for excellence, Arete represents striving for the highest standard in all areas of life. It’s about pushing past mediocrity to achieve greatness, no matter the challenge. Whether in training or everyday decisions, we aim for excellence, never settling for less.

First-Class Attitude – A mindset of quality and professionalism sets the foundation for success. Everything we do reflects a commitment to high standards, preparation, and execution. From the smallest detail to the biggest challenge, we approach it with pride, focus, and the determination to do things the right way.

Team Attitude – Success is never a solo journey. We believe in the power of teamwork, fostering positivity, and having unwavering belief in one another. Supporting and trusting teammates builds a culture of collaboration and unity, ensuring that we rise together.

Mental Toughness – Life and sports are filled with obstacles, but true strength lies in perseverance. Mental toughness is about staying focused, composed, and resilient, even in the face of adversity. It’s the ability to bounce back stronger and remain determined when the pressure is on.

Servant Leadership – True leadership means putting others first. By serving those around us, we create an environment of trust, empathy, and selflessness. This value shapes how we lead by example, lifting others up and inspiring them to be their best.

These core values are the foundation of my coaching philosophy and approach to life. Together, they create a culture where growth, success, and excellence thrive.
